Lois was recruited as a Women’s Empowerment Career Mentor in 2004 by her friend and fellow WE volunteer Linda Ortiz. Since then, Lois has mentored over 20 graduates. As a mentor, Lois enjoys working one-on-one with students to help them overcome obstacles. She says it has been both humbling and rewarding to see the positive effects Women’s Empowerment has had on students’ lives.
At the start of 2016, Lois began volunteering as a receptionist at the front desk where she has been able to observe students’ transformations throughout the entirety of the program .When the women sign up for orientation, Lois describes them as exasperated and hopeless. But once the eight weeks are up, she says the students are so excited “you can’t hold em down!”
In her spare time, Lois enjoys caring for her great grandchildren, cooking, shopping, and taking scenic drives. Lois believes, “like a nice car can go from 0-60mph in 3 seconds, this program helps the women rev up their lives from 0-65 in 8 weeks.”
