Simoni discovered Women’s Empowerment while staying at Sister Noah’s, a nearby shelter. She had suffered from addiction and mental health issues and was severely depressed.
In the past she had worked in the restaurant business and owned a restaurant in Yosemite, CA. When the economy tanked, she had to lay people off and eventually lost her business along with hundreds of thousands of dollars she’d invested into it.
These unfortunate events and stress lead to Simoni’s inability to maintain a steady job.
While at Women’s Empowerment, she participated in a career assessment which helped her realize she was an extremely creative individual. Simoni had always thought about being an esthetician but had no experience and doubted anyone would hire her.
Nonetheless she put herself out there and applied for a position at Macy’s working at their various make up counters. The hiring manager absolutely loved Simoni and hired her in early March of 2016.
On August 24th, 2016 Simoni stopped by Women’s Empowerment to share her good news, and rang the job bell.
Since graduating from Women’s Empowerment in Session 61, Simoni has moved into her own one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. She is enjoying the simple things in life and has recently met up with friends at Chipotle for the first time.
