A Message From Lisa Culp

Dear WE Family,
As we give thanks this holiday season, I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for your ongoing support. The way you so generously share your time, talent, energy, and resources with our community is truly amazing and, for many of the women and children we serve, life-changing. We couldn’t be more thankful.
Thank you for spreading the word about our work, for spending hours working and volunteering with our programs, and for financially supporting our mission.
The women we serve are facing tougher barriers than ever before, but together we will continue to work to ensure they can achieve success. We are excited about the future and the upcoming expansion of Women’s Empowerment housing, available to our graduates who have secured employment and are working towards self-sufficiency for their families. We remain committed to building innovative pathways out of poverty with women and children experiencing homelessness. We know that each woman we serve has the power to build a bright future for herself and our community.

Session 89 Picture Day!
Session 89 had their professional headshots taken, and everyone dressed for success with the help of our community-supported Clothing Closet. They couldn’t stop asking for pictures! Who could blame them? They looked fabulous!
Professional dress days prepare students for future interviews, they will get more practice during mock interviews next week!
Get a Job Kit in Week 3!
Five Graduates from different sessions united by enrolling in our Get a Job Kit Program this year!
After graduating from the 9-week job-readiness program, graduates are hired by The Get A Job Kit Social Enterprise where they gain work experience, training, and confidence to excel as working professionals. As of this week, the women have assembled 500 Get a Job Kits — and that’s not all! These women have had some amazing accomplishments along the way. One is starting school, two have been offered volunteer/ambassador positions that will transition into paid jobs, another has secured housing, and one even got their driver’s license!
R.E.N.E.W. Students Graduated!
We are so proud of our recent R.E.N.E.W. graduates! The Institute of Real Estate Management offers graduates of our program the chance to pursue a career path in Property Management. These women went through rigorous training and pre-training, working long and hard to ensure success. Now, these women are certified as property managers and are actively seeking employment in their new careers!
We Have Some Bell-Ringers!
Ring-Ring! When women in our program reach a milestone, they ring the bell. Last week we had some former graduates visit Session 89 to share their recent success stories.
Kamilah, Session 88, just obtained her driver’s license while working diligently in our Get a Job Kit Program. “I’m just so happy with my progress.”
Jersiha, Session 71, graduated from the R.E.N.E.W. Program this year and is actively seeking employment in property management. She passionately spoke with this Session’s students, saying, “I wanted to show you all proof that this program works. Whatever you put into it, you will get out of it.” Amazing job, ladies!
Host a Craft for Our Holiday Craft Party!
Each year we host a Holiday Craft Party with help from our community. Graduates and their children are invited to attend, celebrate the holidays, get reconnected to services, and participate in craft projects that can be given as gifts during the holiday season.
This year our Holiday Craft Party is taking place on December 17th, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. We are in need of craft booth hosts! You can help…
- Pick a project/craft
- Email zoe@womens-empowerment.org with your craft ideas
- Provide supplies for ~200 people to partake in the craft project! (quantity is flexible)
- Oversee your booth at the craft party, helping women and children with the craft; if you need additional volunteers to help man your station, we can absolutely help with that!
We have had various craft projects in previous years, ranging from scented sachets to bookmarks, bracelets, and even dreamcatchers! If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email zoe@womens-empowerment.org.
