A Place For Kids To Be Kids

A Place For Kids

Children experiencing homelessness are resilient. Even when their world looks strange and scary, they still retain their joy, their hope, and that magical feeling of being a kid. Not only is the Child Development Center a place for children experiencing homelessness to learn and grow while their mothers work to find a job and build a new life, but it is also a critical tool for assessing and treating trauma related to homelessness.

Through a partnership with Help Me Grow, every child receives a developmental assessment and follow-through to make sure s/he receives appropriate referrals, resources, and treatment.

The CDC provides children with all basic necessities, including:

• Clothing
• Formula
• Healthy snacks, breakfast, and lunch
• Diapers
• Connections to medical and dental care

Mothers can nurse babies between classes in the privacy of the on-site lactation room, ensuring babies stay healthy and strong. Children who experience homelessness are at greatly elevated risk of experiencing developmental delays. The CDC provides an enriching space, with trauma-informed staff and volunteers, where children can safely and freely crawl and toddle indoors and outdoors while working on hygiene, potty training, and other developmental skills.
